Adding a ScreenTip

Summary: When you visit a Web site in your browser and you roll your mouse over a hyperlink, you may see a small pop-up tip concerning the link under the mouse. In Excel this is called a ScreenTip, and it is easy to add them to the hyperlinks in your workbook. (This tip works with Microsoft Excel 2000, Excel 2002, and Excel 2003.)

ScreenTips are a Web feature supported by the latest versions of Web browsers. They appear when your mouse pointer hovers over a hyperlink, and they are used in the same way that ToolTips are used in Excel. If you are using Excel 2000 or a later version you can add a ScreenTip as you add a hyperlink by following these steps:

  1. Click on the Insert Hyperlink tool on the toolbar, or choose Hyperlink from the Insert menu. Excel displays the Insert Hyperlink dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  2. Click on the ScreenTip button. Excel displays the Set Hyperlink ScreenTip dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  3. In the ScreenTip Text box, enter the text you want to use for your ScreenTip.
  4. Click on OK to close the dialog box.
  5. Set any other hyperlink values, as desired.
  6. When completed, click on OK.

Tip #2804 applies to Microsoft Excel versions: 2000 | 2002 | 2003
